Default Top Vantage score?

I see the fastest Vantage score is 50516 from an i7-980x chip and 5870.

Ok, I can see a six core processor being more powerful than 4 core, 12 threads versus 8, but I really just cant see how there is such a score difference between i7 processors.

For instance. 4Ghz gives me roughly a 25k cpu score , PPU disabled. The highest score currently is cpu score of 52k. I can see six cores being half as fast, again, score wise as my 920. but nearly twice as much? And that 980x is only clocked to 3.8Ghz.

Obvious answer is that the score is without PPU disabled in which case, how did it get registered?

This may well be a case of me being dense and not seeing the obvious so I'm hoping someone will explain all.

where is that score ? on HWbot ?

not sure which score your looking at, but you've narrowed it down, PPU might be enabled.

taking this image:

he' using ATI cards so no PPU, and yeah the CPU score is insane. Basically, clock speed and more cores will do that.

Again, your running at 4ghz, and going by the SS above, this guy has 2GHZ more than you, plus 4 more (logical) cores,

So, you have 8 cores @ 4Ghz, he has 12 cores at 6Ghz, yep, the difference will be huge !

Olly,
as usual, your logic is impeccable. I forgot about ATI and PPU being that I was so stunned at the CPU score.

I noticed it looking through Futuremark ORB so no, I didn't look at HWbot.

with the i7 980x and ATI 5970, it looks like the bar has been raised some. It's going to be interesting to see by how much in the real world too.

I'll have a pop with a 920 at 4.9ghz and dual 5970s at 1000/1200 if it runs without crashing. My 295s did so if I am lucky this will too...
